AAD is a showcase for civil and military aviation, maritime and land-based defence technologies, and is the largest exhibition of its kind in Africa. The two divisions from RedLinX that will be exhibiting includes RedLinX Embedded Solutions and RedLinX Engineering.

RedLinX Embedded Solutions specialises in industrial PCs, standalone and bus-based Single Board Computers, DSP and FPGA modules, input/output modules, peripherals, keyboards, displays, completely integrated OEM packaged products and highly rugged tablet and notebook PCs for commercial and ruggedised purposes. Products from all of the specialisation areas will be showcased at AAD 2010. Says Wayne Kotze, field engineer at RedLinX Embedded Solutions; “RedLinX prides itself in working closely with each client to ensure that, together, we always find the best and most cost-effective solution that has long-term sustainability for every customer’s business. With the products that will be showcased at AAD, we aim to form new and foster existing business partnerships and show how RedLinX can benefit their bottom-line.”

RedLinX Embedded Solutions distributes an array of ruggedised products, perfect of the for the environmentally challenging applications, such as found in Military, Security, Local Government, Telecoms, Transportation, Industrial, Mining and Logistics markets. The ruggedised product range includes Rugged Solid State HDDs (SATA & PATA), Ruggedised Keyboards (MMI devices), and Open Panel Displays (with touch screens etc). Over and above this, RedLinX also have a wide range of small form factor, ruggedized embedded systems (including fanless), compact embedded processor boards from Mini-ITX, PICO-ITX to Mobile-ITX.

RedLinX Embedded Solutions also have a wide range of 3U & 6U CPCI, VME, VXS, VPX and uTCA form-factor boards, backplanes, chassis, power-supplies, full systems for the really demanding applications (40G Shock and -40°C to +85°C operating temperature).

RedLinX Engineering, who will be sharing the stand with RedLinX Embedded Solutions, has the experience and capability to manage and execute complex technology projects that include mechanical, electronic and computer system engineering. Ergonomic aspects and logistics are addressed at all levels of design.

RedLinX Engineering specialises in the ruggedisation of consumer electronics for use in harsh environments, but we also use these techniques to create reliable system level products for use in more benign environments. Says Alastair Knight, Director at RedLinX and Divisional Manager of RedLinX Engineering, “For us, quality is key, all design and manufacturing processes are controlled by documented procedures which are generated in accordance with the principles of ISO9001.”

Key products which RedLinX Engineering will be showcasing at AAD 2010, includes the Common Manport Rucksacks, of which the Command and Control Backpack was awarded an SABS Excellence Award in the Electronics, Information and Communication Technology sector in 2009. The Common Manport Rucksacks allow radio, radar and other sensitive electronic equipment to be transported over long distances in adverse environments by soldiers on foot. This series of rucksacks is based on a common frame design which, through various custom attachments, covers and bags, allows for a variety of equipment configurations to be accommodated. Says Knight, “The rucksacks are durable but lightweight, as it is not desirable for the soldiers to carry more than 25 kg, including the frames and the equipment.”

To see how rugged a ruggedised notebook really is or to see Common Manport Rucksacks visit the RedLinX stand in Hall 6, Stand 6S7 at AAD 2010. The trade days are 21-23 September and public days are 24-25 September.
